Primary Parents Club

We had our yearly Winter Warmer Hot Chocolate Day this week. A big thank you to all those lovely parents from the Primary Parents Club (PPC) for making it possible and putting a warm smile on all those little faces.

Foundation

In Foundation the students focus on a letter each week. In Week 4, the letter for the week was ‘Vv’. Amongst different literacy experiences, the students had the chance to have a hands on experiences with different ‘Vv’ foods; vegetables and vegemite. There were many new foods for some students, and some familiar loved foods too. Here are some photos from our letter exploration in Week 4!

On Friday the 3rd of August, the Foundation students achieved a very important educational milestone, the first 100 days of school. This event, was celebrated in true style as each student came ‘dressed to impress’ for the occasion. Here are some snapshots from the day.

Grade 1

As part of our writing genre, year 1 students have been participating in hands on activities to consolidate their understanding of procedural writing. Through their language experience they have been able to confidently write about the procedures involved. Last week, students in year 1 made delicious healthy pizzas and yummy fairy bread. After making the fairy bread and pizzas they were able to write a procedural text. Students enjoyed themselves immensely!

Grade 2 Team

Bean & Milkshake

In term 3, students have been further developing their skills in procedural writing and also learning about how things grow and change. Students had the opportunity plant beans and view its growth over a few weeks. It was exciting to see their beans grow and change.

Students also had the opportunity to make milkshakes to which they enjoyed drinking a few cups.

D.E.A.R time

Foundation C and 2A students had the opportunity to read together during D.E.A.R. time. FC students were excited to come to the 2A classroom and read with them. All students had the opportunity to read books to one another. Both FC and 2A students were eager to get together and read again.

No Pens day

Wednesday encourages schools and settings to put down their pens and to run a day of speaking and listening activities. On Wednesday the 15th October students in Grade 2 students used no grey leads, crayons or pencils and all lessons were conducted through explicitly focussing on oral language and active listening. The day was a great success and students were very engaged with the activities held throughout the day.

Grade 2B

This term, grade 2 students have been focusing on procedural writing. Students had the opportunity to write different procedural text and made banana milkshake. Grade2B wrote their own procedural text on how to sneak a monster into Sirius College! They also made their very own monsters. Mohammed Mustapha (2B) wrote about how to sneak a spider into the principal’s office and had the opportunity to read his procedure to Mr. Deniz. He also received an award from the Principal. For Numeracy Grade 2B students made their own City of Array and developed their understanding of arrays and multiplication. Well done grade 2B for working hard this term.

Grade 3

Buddy class

On Friday 3/8/18 3A students celebrated their buddy class’ achievement of 100 days at school. FE students were so happy to share their day with us. Dressed up in amazing decorated t-shirts, our buddies soon found each other with excitement.

We made 100-day glasses and celebratory hats for the foundation students, working together to colour and decorate them. The students of both grades have developed really good friendships. The communal feel of the classroom, as shown in the pictures, is supportive and sincere. 3A was thrown into the ‘buddy class’ role this year, but have truly excelled in the role. Thanks for the effort and support of both Ms Ronahi and her little learners.

Playground classroom

At the end of term 2, 3A came to decide that they needed a classroom makeover. From a more relaxed setting to something considered more formal. Our class has taken to it quite well, and we are learning to work with those outside our friendship circles extremely well.

It was decided to enjoy the rare August sunshine after lunch for some maths in the playground. The students relished the outdoor environment, air and freedom. Some chose to get under cover, in the tunnels, on the bridge, anywhere they could perch.

The children enjoyed doing a maths task then using the monkey bars.

Unfortunately for one lucky student a bird sitting in the tree above him dropped a gift on his workbook. That’s a rarity in the four walls of the classroom, and provided a new learning experience for the class!

Grade 3B Classroom Learning Fun!

Grade 3B students have been busy in Numeracy and Literacy for the past 3 weeks.

In Numeracy, they have been learning about multiplication, division and fractions. They put their learning to practice with an interactive game where the students worded with dice in pairs to create arrays in their books. The students were very interested and engaged in the challenge. It was a great tuning in activity were all students fulfilled their learning desire while having fun.

During Literacy, students have been working extremely productively with their guided reading groups. The students really enjoy guided reading which is a session they have first thing in the morning 4 days a week.

Well done, passionate 3B learners!

Inside the 3B Classroom

This term class 3B has been learning many different skills in all their subjects. During Numeracy we studied multiplication, division and fractions. For Science, States of Matter was our topic. Finally for Literacy, information reports was our focus.

3B has been doing great during this term. We are all really showing improvement in our work with our wonderful teacher, Miss Zeynep. She has taught us everything. We all look forward to the rest of the term.
